Kalamazoo SCRABBLE® Fest returns to benefit adult literacy

Save the date for the 7th Annual Kalamazoo SCRABBLE® Fest! The Kalamazoo Literacy Council (KLC) is hosting the event on April 8, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Bell’s Eccentric Café. This event will raise awareness of adult literacy as well as help raise funds to strengthen and expand adult literacy services for adults who struggle to read. Last year, more than 100 players attended the event raising more than $13,000 to support the KLC. We hope to have an even greater event this year.

The Kalamazoo SCRABBLE® Fest is open to players age 16 and up. Players can register in the “Competitive” or the “Just for Fun” category. Additionally, organizations can sponsor 4-player Corporate Teams. All levels of players are welcome. The event will follow official SCRABBLE® rules and tournament play will consist of three 45-minute games with each player having 3 minutes per turn.

The cost to play is $25 per person or $200 per corporate team. Forms are available at Eventbrite.com or at the KLC office at Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan. The Kalamazoo SCRABBLE® Fest is limited to 120 players. Game slots are expected to go fast so be sure to register early! Players who register by the March 23, 2017 deadline receive an event t-shirt.

The KLC is also seeking volunteers to serve as judges, timers, and to help with the set-up and clean-up. To volunteer or for more information about the Kalamazoo SCRABBLE® Fest please call the KLC office at (269) 382-0490 EXT. 222. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
